Richard Carson
Rich is a Senior Associate with Citygate Associates and manager of their Pacific Northwest office with experience working in Alaska, California, Oregon Utah and Washington. Citygate provides consulting services to local and state government in the areas of government management, community development, emergency services, strategic planning, organizational development, animal control, and leadership and development training.
Rich was the Director of Clark County's Community Development Department(Vancouver, Washington) which had 165 employees, a $17 million annual budget and reviewed $588 million in new construction. He was also Planning Director for METRO (Portland area's regional government with jurisdiction over 1.3 million people) and Acting City Manager/Community Development Director for the City of Oregon City. Rich was the Planning Manager for the Oregon Economic and Community Development Dept.
Rich was the former President of the Southwest Section of the American Planning Association's Washington Chapter. A former state board member of Oregon and Washington's state APA chapters, and Oregon Planners' Journal editor for four years. Rich was Vice-Chair with the Urban Land Institute's Oregon/SW Washington District Council. Rich currently maintains APA's Planning Publication's Directory website. Rich was Urban Studies editor for LookSmart and DMOZ, and is currently an editor with Wikipedia. Rich is also webmaster for About Planning. Now on Twitter !
Rich is pursuing a doctorate degree [Ph.D.] at Washington State University (Vancouver).
